Globalstor Data Corporation and PNY Technologies® today announced that the ExtremeStor-DI featuring ASSIMILATE’s SCRATCHÔ Data-Centric Workflow Solution will be showcased at the SIGGRAPH 2005 tradeshow and exhibition on August 2-4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in PNY’s booth (#2019).
A high-performance, fault-tolerant, hi-definition Digital Intermediate (DI) solution, the ExtremeStor-DI incorporates 24, 250GB hot-swappable SATA hard drives for up to 6TB of local storage or 24, 400GB hot-swappable SATA hard drives for up to 9.6TB. Paired with the feature-rich SCRATCH, ExtremeStor-DI provides exceptional hardware performance and storage for post-production capabilities that satisfy the stringent technical requirements of filmmakers and post houses at one of the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership (TCO). The combined solution fits the broad spectrum of budgets for large film studios, independent filmmakers, as well as traditional and boutique post-production facilities.

Integrating the new NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 by PNY graphics board, ExtremeStor-DI supports 32x full-scene antialiasing (FSAA) to deliver superior image quality, and offers support for up to four dual-link high-resolution displays within a single system.

The core features of this combined solution include SCRATCH’s real-time, multi-resolution review/ playback, assemble/edit, conform, primary and secondary color correction, multi-layer grading stack, scratch audio, visual effects (significantly enhanced, with over 150 optional third-party plug-ins) and final mastering to film. Running on Windows-based, open-architecture workstations and using dual Intel Xeon processors with 2GB of RAM, ExtremeStor-DI under RAID 5 writes at a sustained data rate in excess of 350 MB/Sec and plays back/reads in excess of 900 MB/Sec. Using RAID 0, the ExtremeStor-DI is capable of achieving up to 1000MB/sec sustained raw performance. The result is a powerful, integrated, streamlined DI workflow environment, running on optimal performance hardware, enabling increased productivity and even greater control at the final stages of film production.
A second ExtremeStor-DI server, integrating the NVIDIA Quadro FX4000 SDI by PNY graphic board featuring both HD-SDI and DVI interfaces, will demonstrate the solution’s high-performance, fault-tolerance capability playing hi-definition (HD) content through Windows Media player.
