This week at NAB, Globalstor Data Corporation and ASSIMILATE, Inc, will demonstrate the new ExtremeStor-DI. A high-performance fault-tolerant hi-definition Digital Intermediate (DI) solution, the ExtremeStor-DI incorporates 24, 250GB hot-swappable SATA hard drives for up to 6TB of local storage or 24, 400GB hot-swappable SATA hard drives for up to 9.6TB. When paired with ASSIMILATE’s SCRATCHÔ, Data-Centric Workflow Solution, ExtremeStor-DI provides exceptional post-production capabilities to satisfy the stringent technical requirements of filmmakers and post houses at one of the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership (TCO), and to meet the budget requirements of independent filmmakers and boutique post-production facilities.
The core features of this combined solution include real-time, multi-resolution review/ playback, assemble/edit, conform, primary color correction, scratch audio, visual effects (significantly enhanced with over 150 optional third-party plug-ins), and final mastering to film. Running on Windows-based, open-architecture workstations and using dual Intel Xeon processors with 2GB of RAM, ExtremeStor-DI under RAID 5 writes at a sustained data rate in excess of 350 MB/Sec and plays back/reads in excess of 900 MB/Sec. Using RAID 0, the ExtremeStor-DI is capable of achieving up to 1000MB/sec sustained raw performance. The result is a powerful, integrated, streamlined DI workflow environment that enables increased productivity and even greater control at the final stages of film production.
