Globalstor Demonstrates Uninterrupted Streaming Video Using ExtreamStor SC at NAB

Supports Scalability from 7.2TB to Over 20TB with Unparalleled RAID 5 Over RAID 5

LAS VEGAS, NV April 8, 2002:

This week at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Convention in Las Vegas, Globalstor Data Corporation, a leading provider of high-end mass storage solutions, will be testing the limits to their new ExtremeStor SC (Scalable).  A rack mount enterprise data warehouse solution with scalability from 2TB to well over 358TB, Globalstor plans to stream video to an 18 drive, three array system (over 2TB).  During the demonstration, Globalstor will shut off one array to show that even under a 30 percent system failure, users will still have uninterrupted access to streaming video.

Eliminating interoperability issues, ExtremeStor SC simultaneously supports mainframe connections through ESCON and FICON channels as well as connection to open UNIX, Linux, Windows 2000/NT, and AS/400 systems through SCSI and Fibre Channel.  To ensure unparalleled access to stored files, ExtremeStor SC also provides RAID 0, 1, 0 +1, 3, and standard RAID 5 support.  ExtremeStor SC is also one of the industry’s first enterprise data warehouse solutions to provide RAID 5 over RAID 5 data redundancy for enhanced data security, information sharing and data management capabilities combined with one of the lowest total costs of ownership (TCO).

"In the broadcast industry, lost or interrupted content can cost an organization millions," said Scott Leif, President of Globalstor Data Corp.  "With ExtremeStor SC and the security of RAID 5 over RAID 5, environments could essentially loose an entire RAID array without losing access to data.  ExtremStor SC was designed to improve efficiency, while reducing overhead with dynamic, on-site scalability."

RAID level 5 fully incorporates both data striping & parity, allowing disks to satisfy multiple read and write requests independently and resulting in a higher read performance in a request intensive environment. Since parity information is used across the entire array, a RAID 5 stripe can withstand a single disk failure without losing data or access to data. In addition, because the parity information is written over the entire array, and not just a single disk, RAID 5 also greatly reduces bottlenecks often experience with a single-parity-disk solution.  RAID 5 over 5 expands the data security compatibility of RAID 5 solutions by adding additional redundancy of parity over the multiple RAID 5 partitions.

Host-independent to ensure compatibility with any system including NT, Solaris and UNIX, Globalstor’s ExtremeStor SC is ideally suited for a enterprise applications including: government, military, medical and film houses for applications such as content preservation and distribution, medical image generation, and video archival.  To enhance information sharing and management capabilities, the ExtremeStor SC is compatible with a broad range of software applications available through Globalstor as well as several third-party suppliers.

Globalstor Data’s ExtremeStor SC will be demonstrated at Globalstor’s Booth #S6572during NAB April 8th through 11th, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pricing and Availability

An exceptional value, the ExtremeStor SC is available for direct sale through Globalstor Data or to OEMs for development into specific applications.  The ExtremeStor SC will begin shipping this month and will include a two-year factory warranty. MSRP for entry-level solutions start at $26,000.
