GLOBALSTOR’S EXTREMESTOR-DI TO ADD MUSCLE TO LASERGRAPHICS’ DIRECTOR DEMO AT IBC 2009

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 9 September, 2009:

Globalstor® Data Corporation, a premier OEM integrator of high-performance RAID, SAN and storage/video servers, is pleased to announce that Lasergraphics has chosen the Globalstor ExtremeStor-DI video storage and playback system to power demonstrations of its state-of-the-art Director motion picture film scanning system at IBC 2009 (Lasergraphics IBC Stand 7.F01), 11-15 September.

For the demos, the Lasergraphics Director system will scan 35mm film at 9fps directly into the 24-drive RAID of the ExtremeStor-DI through a 10Gb Ethernet (GbE) network connection. This setup allows creative staff to begin their work immediately, without unnecessary and time-consuming copy operations or expensive Fibre Channel SAN systems. ASSIMILATE’s 10GbE SCRATCH® Data Process Solution and post-production software will be used to color grade and provide real-time full resolution playback of the scanned content. As for the ExtremeStor-DI, its ability to process extremely large, uncompressed file sizes dramatically lowers overall system costs and improves efficiency while still allowing for unlimited future expandability.

“Close cooperation between vendors provides customers with complete DI systems without the need to hire guru technical experts, thus lowering overall costs dramatically,” says Dr. Stefan Demetrescu, CEO of Lasergraphics. “The real-time playback capabilities of the Globalstor ExtremeStor-DI hardware combined with the innovative creative toolset of the ASSIMILATE SCRATCH software provides a complete high-quality DI workflow solution that is practical, cost-effective and fast.”

The ExtremeStor-DI video storage and playback workstation has been engineered and certified to work with the industry’s leading providers of feature rich, high-performance graphics, capture and playback systems, as well as the best open platform color grading technologies the industry has to offer. With base models starting at just under 2.5TBs and scalability of up to 24TBs in a single 4 or 5RU, the cost per megabyte is at an all time low, making the ExtremeStor series of video storage desktop, tower and rackmount servers the most attractive ROI for the digital intermediate and digital cinema marketplace today.

“We are thrilled that Lasergraphics has selected the ExtremeStor-DI as the capture and playback system for its IBC 2009 Director demonstrations,” says Scott Leif, president of Globalstor Data Corporation. “The workflow presented in these demonstrations eliminates the need for the expensive telecine scanning traditionally used to convert film to digital content. The Lasergraphics system does this transfer better, quicker and for less money. The ExtremeStor-DI, with its capability of handling such extremely data-intensive processes, is the perfect choice for this system.”
