Globalstor’s Dual Core Opteron-Based ExtremeStor-DI Ready to Ride with IRIDAS FrameCycler DDS

Real-Time Playback at Up To 4K Resolution

CHATSWORTH, CA September 12, 2005:

Globalstor Data Corporation and IRIDAS announced today that the ExtremeStor-DI based on AMD’s new Dual Core Opteron processors has been certified for use with IRIDAS’ FrameCycler DDS and SpeedGrade DI.  FrameCycler DDS offers uncompressed, direct-from-disk playback along with a rich set of sequence analysis tools.  SpeedGrade DI is a complete color grading and film finishing application.  Together with ExtremeStor-DI, these applications provide exceptional power and flexibility to postproduction and DI workflows at a fraction of the cost associated with older technologies used in these areas.

A complete Digital Intermediate solution, ExtremeStor-DI with two Dual Core AMD Opteron processors provides up to 1000MB/sec. sustained performance.  The system incorporates 24, 250GB hot-swappable SATA hard drives for up to 6TB of local storage or 24, 500GB hot-swappable SATA hard drives for up to 12TB, and can be scaled externally via SCSI or Fibre.  Paired with Dual Core AMD Opteron processors, ExtremeStor-DI significantly reduces bottlenecks through AMD’s Direct Connect Architecture and provides digital content professionals with optimized performance in a broad range of networked video applications.

Along with unlimited direct-from-disk 2K and 4K playback, FrameCycler DDS includes support for cube-based color calibration together with SpeedGrade .look files enabling users to create accurate, color graded previews and virtual film-outs quickly and easily. SpeedGrade DI offers a complete set of non-destructive color grading and film finishing capabilities and shares the same .look file format used by SpeedGrade OnSet.
“Digital technologies in filmmaking offer exponential increases in power and the promise of lower costs for hardware” says Steve Crouch, Director of IRIDAS USA.  “Pairing FrameCycler or SpeedGrade with Globalstor’s ExtremeStor-DI opens the door to new workflows and capabilities at prices that even smaller facilities can easily manage.

“We love the way IRIDAS is driving the industry,” said Scot Leif, President of Globalstor Data. “Their applications move forward by leaps and bounds, and we have the hardware to match them. Together with our new Dual Core Opteron-based ExtremeStor-DI, we provide post and DI professionals with greater control over their content and the means to collaborate more productively with others on any project.”
