Globalstor Data Corporation and JMR Electronics, a leading designer and manufacturer of scaleable enterprise storage systems, today announced a partnership to bring fast, reliable, terabyte capacity RAID solutions to the motion picture industry including JMR’s Fortra® i6 15-Bay 2GB Fibre Channel Raid and Fortra A2 15-Bay 2G Fibre to SATA RAID solutions. Both solutions provide users with unlimited scalability, a virtually open architecture and broad RAID/JBOD compatibility.
Developed to improve enterprise efficiency while reducing overhead with dynamic, on-site scalability; the Fortra i6 incorporates up to 15 hot swappable, industry standard Fibre Channel hard drives providing up to 600MB/sec data throughput under RAID 5 and offering up to 2.2TB of storage in a rack-mountable (3U) system. With the addition of a 2GB, FC JBOD, capacity is doubled to 4.4TB giving the Fortra i6 enough capacity to manage a full length feature film and performance exceeding the requirements for uncompressed, realtime, HD and 2K digital intermediate. The Fortra A2 is powered by a sophisticated RAID controller technology with 64-bit architecture and advanced firmware. Host and Operating System independent, the A2 incorporates up to 15 hot swappable SATA drives for up to 200MB/sec. data throughput and capacity up to 4.5TB. The Fortra A2 increases reliability by preventing downtime due to hardware failure while running in RAID 5. Both RAID systems are suitable for editing in compressed HD, NTSC and or uncompressed, nearline storage of digital intermediate.

RAID systems, by design, can sustain several bad sectors, even whole disk failures and continue running transparently to the end-user. Spare disk drives are often supported to speed the automatic rebuilding of failed drives, and removable disk canisters simplify the task of replacing failed disk drives. With the professional video industry moving into the High Definition era, storage demands have had to respond quickly.

Available for direct sale through Globalstor Data, JMR or to OEMs for development into specific applications, Fortra i6 and Fortra A2 are available now with three-year factory warranties. Prices for the Fortra i6 with 15 146GB (2.1TB) drives start at $40,000.
