Globalstor’s NAS Library Server Provides Ultimate Storage Flexibility

Supports Up to 90 SCSI Devices

LAS VEGAS, NV April 23, 2001:

Globalstor Data Corporation announced today, the InfinAttach NAS (network-attached storage) Server utilizing embedded NT to provide a virtually open architecture from which users can scale nearly unlimited capacity and application flexibility. The InfinAttach NAS is available in both a midrange and an enterprise version.  A true breakthrough in cost efficient, multiple storage device connectivity, the InfinAttach NAS makes it easy for environments to deploy and manage advanced file storage.

According to International Data Corporation (IDC), the global market for NAS devices has grown from $540 million in 1998 to $850 million last year.  That figure is expected to soar by 2003 reaching as much as $5.1 billion.  Administrators can attach the solution to any combination of RAID, CD, DVD, MO or tape library simultaneously.

Designed to scale to nearly unlimited capacity and offering exceptional application flexibility to any storage network, the InfinAttach NAS makes it easy for environments to deploy and manage advanced file storage without sacrificing economy.  Globalstor’s midrange solution offers connection to as many as 30 SCSI devices and access to as many as 20 clients.  The server includes a 60GB hard drive, a Pentium III 750 CPU, 256MB RAM, dual 10/100 Network interface and pre-loaded library management software.

For added value, InfinAttach has two expansion slots, which are completely field upgradable and capable of boosting support up to as many as 90 SCSI devices.  The additional slot’s can also be used for Fibre Channel support, or a Gigabit Ethernet card, or any combination.  RAID volume users can maximize the base system with 30 5TB RAID volumes and still add a gigabit or a dual gigabit controller in the secondary slot.

The upgraded enterprise version takes full advantage of the embedded NT server to provide unlimited client access.  Both midrange and enterprise solutions provide complete remote management capability using Microsoft’s NetMeeting.  Additional remote management capability for UNIX users is also included.

"This standards-based solution achieves breakthrough economics without sacrificing performance or reliability," said Scott Leif, President of Globalstor Data Corp.  "The InfinAttach NAS is designed to integrate seamlessly making it one of the easiest NAS solutions to deploy and manage."

Acting as a file server, the NAS Library Server offers support for MAC, Novell, NT and UNIX clients, allowing users and devices quicker access to shared files while decreasing the demands of application servers.  In the event of a power failure or other catastrophic event, Globalstor’s InfinAttach NAS automatically restarts and performs a full system configuration, restoring the system within minutes.   The compact NAS Server measures only 10.5" x 5.25" x 11.5"(W x H x L) and can be easily mounted to any library.

Pricing and Availability

Available for direct sale through Globalstor Data or to OEMs for development into specific applications, the InfinAttach NAS will begin shipping the end of April and will include a two-year factory warranty.
