GLOBALSTOR TO LAUNCH NEXT GENERATION OF

EXTREMESTOR-DI AT IBC 2009

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 3 September, 2009:

Globalstor® Data Corporation, a premier OEM integrator of high-performance RAID, SAN and storage/video servers, will announce at IBC 2009 the next generation of the company’s acclaimed ExtremeStor-DI video storage and playback workstation.  This new version offers native, uncompressed 4K, stereoscopic 2K and R3D (RED 3D) resolution playback in a single solution, either in a rack-mount or tower configuration, along with 10 PCI Express (PCI-E) card slots.

It is this unprecedented number of card slots combined with a patent-pending chassis design that puts the new version of ExtremeStor-DI in a class of its own, enabling support of more graphics cards and boards than ever, including the NVIDIA® Quadro® FX by PNY series, RED Rocket, and Bluefish444, among others. Also supported are BNC connections for SDI outputs, as well as the NVIDIA Quadro Plex 2200 D2 visual computing system, allowing for trouble-free connectivity to projectors.

“Having 10 card slots adds a level of flexibility to the ExtremeStor-DI that puts the end user truly ahead of the game,” says Scott Leif, president, Globalstor Data Corporation. “As more production and post houses are being asked to handle different types of formats and applications, from RED R3D to stereoscopic 2K, it’s critical to have a playback system with this kind of capability. It helps end users stay current, while at the same time keeping an eye out for the future.”

There are 112 lanes of PCI-E, which can be utilized to create one of the most flexible and scalable workstations on the market.

The new version of ExtremeStor-DI comes in 10-, 24- and 32-drive configurations, as well as in 12- and 24-drive uncompressed 4K-ready configurations.  Stereo DPX will also be supported on the new platforms, depending on the configuration.

“NVIDIA SDI and RED Rocket typically require a total of five card slots.  Competitors have seven on their chassis, five of which will be occupied by the NVIDIA SDI and RED Rocket, leaving two additional slots for RAID controllers and RS422,” notes Leif.

“The NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 SDI by PNY combined with the new version of the ExtremeStor-DI delivers a cutting-edge DI solution, which takes advantage of our most powerful GPU solution to date and is capable of meeting the critical demands of our motion picture clients,” says Jeff Medeiros, director of marketing, PNY Technologies.

The new version utilizes a custom sealed, maintenance-free liquid-cooling solution that eliminates the use of an abundance of fans and keeps noise to a minimum.  This allows the system to stay cool even in warmer ambient temperatures.
